U.S. Soccer recently came down with a policy change that prohibits players from U6-U10 from heading the ball in games. This is to reduce the possibility of a concussion due to head-to-head collisions when two players are going for the ball. The policy change is an immediate mandate and will affect players in the Spring of 2016.
For age groups with referees: During a game if a player intentionally heads a ball, the other team is awarded an indirect free kick. If unintentional, then plays resumes with no penalty.
For age groups without referees: During a game if a player intentionally heads a ball, coaches must immediately remind the player not to head the ball. Play resumes how???
